A 16-year-old college student from Petts Wood is on a mission to get Bromley skating with her quest to bring an ice rink to the borough.

Rosie Donovan donned her first pair of skates aged nine after being inspired by the professionals on Dancing on Ice.

But with the only options of travelling to Gillingham or Streatham every week for lessons, the two-hour round trip soon became too much.

Now Rosie, who lives with her family near Station Square, is hoping to drum up support with a Facebook petition which has already topped 1,000 likes.

The Capel Manor College pupil told News Shopper: "I would love to just put my skates on and feel happy and graceful on the ice without having to travel for about an hour to a further place.

"Ice skating is such a good sport for all ages. No matter how old you are or what your ability is, you can still enjoy skating whether alone or with your friends and family."

Rosie said seeing an ice rink open in her home town would be "a dream come true".

Rosie Donovan hopes to bring an ice rink to Bromley.

Her mum Lorna, 42, said the petition has had an overwhelmingly positive response, and they've even received messages of support from a former Olympic figure skater.

She told News Shopper: "People get excited when these novelty ones pop up at Christmas but they're not proper ice rinks.

"I think it would be very beneficial for the area...I can't see how it would fail."

With the potential for skating parties, professional lessons and even an ice hockey team, Rosie hopes to show off Bromley's potential.
