The closure of the Deptford Creek Road bridge has caused massive traffic delays and congestion for motorists in Greenwich today (September 15).

Creek Road was closed in the early hours of this morning due to a 'suspected weak bridge' - leaving motorists frustrated as they tried to travel to work.

Heavy congestion and knock-on delays have been felt by motorists in Woolwich, Charlton, Shooter's Hill and Bexley.

The road has now re-opened after engineers finished emergency repair works just after 12pm.

Tfl bus routes 188, 199 and N1 were subject to diversion in both directions.

A spokeswoman for Greenwich Council said the road was closed due to a fault with the bridge locking mechanism which has been investigated and remedied.
