A Bromley man who saved his wife after she suffered a cardiac arrest has donated a defibrillator to Petts Wood station.

David Edmonds, 50, was with his wife Michelle, 44, at their home near Sundridge Avenue when she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Mr Edmonds, a life coach, phoned the London Ambulance Service (LAS) who gave him instructions on CPR before paramedics arrived and shocked her heart three times.

Mr Edmonds said: “It was the evening and we were getting ready for bed, I heard a loud bang. I got up to see what had happened and Michelle was lying on the floor unconscious.

“Paramedics were there for about an hour getting her heart started again. Technically speaking she was dead.”

Mrs Edmonds, a nurse, made a full recovery. She said: “I was completely fit and healthy; it shows it can happen to anyone, anywhere.

“We’re glad we’ve been able to do something which will help people in the community.”

MORE TOP STORIES Mr Edmonds was nominated for an award from the LAS recognising members of the public who save lives, winning the Community Resuscitation Award.

As a result he was gifted with a defibrillator, as part of the LAS’s Shockingly Easy Campaign, to donate to a place of his choice and he chose Petts Wood station.

Mr Edmonds added: “It’s brilliant that we’re able to help others. One of the main reasons we chose Petts Wood is we wanted it to reach the maximum amount of people.

"Some are in chemists which are 9-5 whereas this is always accessible.”

The defibrillator will be installed at the station next week after it Mr Edmonds presented it earlier today (September 4).
