Is north Kent on its way to producing the next Lewis Hamilton? You might think so once you hear about the child-car-star Cai Evans, from West Hill, Dartford.

The 13-year-old petrol head, who attends Haberdashers’ Aske’s Crayford Academy, is racing through his driving career in style and has now reached it to the final of a national driving competition.

Cai said: “I am very excited and my friends think it’s so cool that I’ve made the final, I can’t wait to compete.

“ I’ve been driving since my 11th birthday as a birthday gift from my grandparents, and it just gets better and better.”

TOP STORIES:

Cai will be demonstrating his driving prowess at the 2015 Young Driver Challenge taking place this weekend at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham.

He will pit his reflexes and skills against 40 other young hopefuls trying to be crowned champion by the company Young Driver.

Kim Stanton from Young Driver said: “We’re delighted for Cai and would like to offer our congratulations.

“He and the other finalists really worked hard, and should feel very proud of themselves.”

Cai will be tested on manoeuvres such as parallel parking, figures of eight, braking, steering, judgement and positioning, as well as an interactive online driving simulator that will test his knowledge of the Highway Code.

Prizes Cai could win include 40 driving lessons provided by Goodyear and £500 off an Admiral car insurance premium courtesy of Young Driver when he reaches the legal driving age.
