Two peregrine falcons from Eynsford are set to cruise the skies as they free fall 2,000 ft from a hot air balloon.

The hawkish pair, called Dick and Dom, will be tearing through the skies this weekend with trainer Jonathan Ames, 29, as he waves them off at a speed of 250 mph.

The one-year-old falcons born and raised at Eagle Heights aviary, have been training hard to become the Guinness World Records, fastest creature.

Jonathan’s father, Allan, 59, recalls a time when his son asked him why his family weren’t normal. A young Jonathon questioned his Dad: “Why don’t our neighbours have eagles in the back garden?”

When asked why his son is trying to break the record, Allan replied: “Why not? It’s good fun and that’s what life is all about. It will be fantastic.”

As Jonathan trained Dick and Dom, Allan reared their father, Atom: “He is the most awesome falcon honestly, so both Dick and Dom have got great genetics.”

Whether or not great genes will be a contributing factor in breaking the 142 mph record is up for debate. Although the weather has been a major cause for concern, trainer Jonathan is determined to set the world record straight.

The peregrine falcon brothers, who were born and raised at the centre in Lullingstone Lane, will have one shot each at setting the new speed record.

Jonathan has been using a lure, attached to a drone, to train the falcons in the hope that the birds will reach the dare devil speed of at least 250 mph.

The trio will venture up in a hot air balloon 2,000 ft above sea-level and plummet through the air as they chase a new record.
