A fleet of Tall Ships returns to Greenwich this bank holiday weekend for a five day spectacular.

Residents and visitors can once again look on as the majestic fleet of up to 15 tall ships are moored along the riverfront in Woolwich and Greenwich from this Thursday (August 27) until Monday (August 31).

The festival includes a free fireworks display every evening and a host of family-friendly entertainment.

On Saturday there is a free day of festivities - hosted by the Royal Borough and Berkeley Homes.

People can pre-book to board the vessels for free as they’re moored along the riverfront and there’ll be live music, traditional funfair rides, a vintage car show, family entertainment and a host of food stalls and licensed bars and nautical movies on the big screen.

All of the Tall Ships are due to set off at 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday from Cutty Sark Gardens, sailing majestically down the river and out to sea.

Last summer's spectacular attracted more than a million visitors with a number of local firms and attractions reporting best ever trading figures and visitor numbers.

Councillor Miranda Williams, Royal Borough of Greenwich cabinet member for culture and creative industries said: "It’ll be wonderful to see the Tall Ships once again come back ‘home’ to the Royal Borough and I urge as many people as possible to get out and experience the festivities on offer.

"The Tall Ships are a great draw for people and these festivals attract huge numbers, adding to our already excellent offer as a visitor destination.

"This all helps boost our local economy and of course, it’s great for local people to have this on their doorstep – make sure you don’t miss out, there’s something for all the family."

Free tickets for static visits on-board the ships in Woolwich can be pre-booked here.
