A Swanley woman accused of stabbing a builder in the neck with a screwdriver after her husband beat him to the ground has been cleared of wounding with intent to cause serious harm.

Jenny Turrell, 49, and former amateur boxer Robert Symons, 51, were both cleared of the charge at Canterbury Crown Court yesterday (Aug 25).

The court heard that handyman Jeff King and Symons had been friends for 30 years but reportedly fell out after the couple, who live in Birchwood Park Avenue, refused to pay him for renovation work on their property in Margate.

The victim allegedly "smashed up" the house in Ethelbert Gardens overnight on January 29, while the owners were in Turkey.

They flew back and, on February 10, Symons was reversing his van when he spotted his former friend - and a fight ensued, which Turrell later joined.

When the jury returned yesterday, Symons was found guilty of unlawful wounding but cleared of possessing an offensive weapon.

He is expected to be sentenced today.

The jury is still deliberating on whether his wife is guilty of unlawful wounding and possessing an offensive weapon.
