A group of nine suspected migrants were 'caught' by police in Dartford today (Aug 5).

Police were called to a lorry parked near the Dartford Tunnel and The Bridge industrial estate - the group were reportedly hanging on underneath the vehicle.

Local wildlife expert Wayne May, who runs Artisan Rare breeds on The Brent, was working at a nearby lake when he spotted a police car and van with the 'migrants' at 12.45pm.

He told News Shopper: "It looked like they were holding onto underneath the tanker lorry.

"We saw four people.

"It was quite calm. The police were very efficient."

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to reports that nine suspected migrants were in an articulated vehicle near to the Dartford River Crossing.

"Officers attended and arrangements are being made for them to be handed over to Home Office Immigration Enforcement officers to process."

On Friday (July 31), 16 migrants were arrested in Dartford on suspicion of illegal entry into the UK.
