A dramatic search involving police, the Gravesend lifeboat team, and a helicopter was sparked after someone 'threatened self-harm' in Dartford last night (Aug 4).

The Met marine police unit was also tasked in the search of the Dartford Creek Barrier area, to which Gravesend RNLI were called at midnight.

Due to a lack of water, the boats were unable to reach the barrier - and it was decided that shoreside police and the helicopter would conduct the search.

An RNLI spokesman said: "The lifeboat was tasked yesterday at 11.59pm to the report of a person threatening self-harm in the vicinity of Dartford creek barrier.

"The lifeboat was then asked to conduct a shore side search in the area of Little Brook power station.

"Whilst searching the lifeboat was informed that the person had been found and had been taken into police custody.

"With this information the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station."

The Dartford Creek Barrier is in the area where The Thames meets the River Darent.
