A Penge resident has praised the air ambulance after they treated a man who was hit by a van.

The man, in his 60s, was struck on the High Street just before 10am on Wednesday (July 29).

He was treated for non life-threatening back and head injuries and rushed to Kings College Hospital.

Emergency services attended the crash at the junction with Green Lane, including London’s Air Ambulance which landed in a nearby car park.

Glenn Lawrence, 41, who lives nearby, saw flashing lights and heard sirens while going to the shops.

He told News Shopper: "As I got closer I could see the fire engine, ambulance and police there and it looked pretty grim.

"I’ve not come across an accident like that before.

"They had a tarpaulin. When you see the tarpaulin and the paramedics trying to restrict the view of the public you think the worst."

"We’re so surprised there’s only one air ambulance in London.

"It’s amazing, without a doubt the outcome of today could have been very different. It could have been a horrible story."
