An ambulance and Audi crashed in Woolwich temporarily closing a main road.

Transport for London (TfL) tweeted Plumstead Road was blocked Westbound after a collision at Woolwich New Road today (August 1).

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed one of their ambulances was involved in a crash.

They sent a duty officer to the scene, but no one was injured in the smash.

Photos taken at the scene show the ambulance with damage to the front and the Audi, which narrowly missed a wall.

The crash happened just before 6.30pm, with the road fully re-opening an hour later.

MORE TOP STORIES Eyewitness Trevor Maskery, 31, said: “I was walking by Woolwich Arsenal when we heard the ambulance, everyone stopped and basically the guy in the Audi eiither didn’t hear the sirens or just carried on going and smashed with the ambulance.”

The teacher from Charlton added: “The Audi ended up almost u-turning. Either he didn’t hear the sirens or wanted to get ahead of the ambulance. The ambulance had blue lights and sirens going.

“It looked quite bad, but it wasn’t high speed or anything. It was more cosmetic damage.”

Bus routes 51, 99, 177, 180, 386 and 472 were subject to delays and diversions.
