A mother freed her trapped son from a car just minutes before it burst into flames on the A2.

Kelly Uckac, 36, was travelling as a passenger in the silver car with her two children aged eight and 12 when it set alight at the Danson Interchange yesterday afternoon (July 29).

The mother-of-two's friend, a 34-year-old woman, was driving the car whilst her three children aged five, 12 and 13 also travelled as passengers.

Ms Uckac said: "We started to something and saw the floor burning. Pieces of the car floor were coming off.

"She stopped the car and we got the kids out.

"My son had his foot lodged in the between the seatbelt and the seat as he and his friend scrambled to jump over the seat to get out.

"I managed to free him seconds before the car went up in flames.

"It was very shocking."

The group have thanked a stranger named Charlotte Hall who called the fire brigade and have praised the work of emergency services.

Ms Uckac added: "The very nice lady stopped and helped put the kids in her car for safety.

"She called the fire brigade who came very quickly.

"The police and fire brigade were very nice and helped calm the children.

"We were taken in the police van to Falcon Wood station to get home."
