Two Bromley schoolgirls have proved true friendship never dies by fundraising in memory of their friend who suffered a fatal asthma attack two years ago.

Warren Road Primary student Olivia Dennis was just 10 years old when she tragically died from an asthma attack in March 2013.

Her classmates at the school, off Sevenoaks Road, tirelessly raised thousands of pounds the year following her death.

But her two best friends, Poppy Witham and Megan Baseby, both 12, have continued their campaign in memory of their friend.

Both now The Priory pupils, off Tintagel Road, they have never stopped trying to raise awareness of asthma in schools.

Megan, from Stowe Road, said: “When me and my friend were in Year Five we lost our friend through an asthma attack and we wanted to raise as much money as possible.

“We want to keep awareness up, it was really sad to lose my friend. She was my best friend but she had other friends.

“I think she would be happy we are helping lots of other people.”

“We wanted to do something in her memory; we feel the fundraising is keeping her alive.”

Poppy’s mum, Ruth Witham, who works at Warren Road Primary, said both mums were ‘immensely proud’ of the pair.

She added: “It’s their way of coping with her death. They were just 10 and it really affected them. They don’t expect someone their age to die.”

The Year Seven pupils managed to raise £804.46 through a variety of events, which they presented to Asthma UK.

Keith Powell, assistant head at The Priory, said: "They have worked tirelessly to surpass their initial fundraising goal of £300.

"Their £800 total is the largest two Year 7 students have raised for charity in such a short time and we are incredibly proud of them."

Olivia’s mum, Lisa, also joined the duo at the school earlier this month to mark their efforts.
