Three men have been jailed for a 'sickening' robbery in which an elderly couple were beaten, tied up and robbed in their own home.

The attack happened at around 5am on June 9 last year when two robbers forced their way in to a 69-year-old man's home in Chislehurst Road as he opened the front door.

The men attacked the victim, repeatedly punching him in the face.

The robbers tied the victim and his 67-year-old wife up, gagged them and assaulted them further before ransacking the house.

They subjected the occupiers to a horrific ordeal for nearly an hour before fleeing with the contents of the safe and other items from the property, including cash, jewellery and watches to the value of approximately £300,000.

The man was taken to hospital suffering from facial injuries and a dislocated shoulder, which required an operation to pin it back into place and his wife suffered facial injuries and shock.

Yesterday at Croydon Crown Court (July 17) three men were convicted and sentenced for the attack.

Zahid Sait, also known as Zahid Nahid Yahyalar, 42 from Hertfordshire, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Kyio Scarlett-Hudson, 20, from Willesden, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and sentenced to eight years imprisonment.

Junior Miller, 37, from Highbury, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, two counts of false imprisonment, possession of a section 5 firearm and possession of Class B drugs and was sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment.

A fourth man, Reece Williams, 24, from Barnet was found not guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery.

An investigation by officers from Bromley CID revealed that Sait, a member of the victims' extended family, had arranged the robbery.

Sait had previously been employed by the victims' company but was dismissed after financial irregularities were discovered.

Miller was arrested on 15 July, Sait arrested on 13 October and Scarlett-Hudson arrested on 10 February 2015.

Detective Sergeant Gary Head, of Bromley Police praised the victims' bravery during the trial.

He said: "This was an extremely vicious and violent robbery. The victims were attacked and robbed in their own home and over £300,000 worth of property was stolen - none of which has ever been recovered.

"This robbery was made even more sickening as it was organised by Zahid Sait, a member of the victims' own extended family.

"The victims were forced to relive this horrifying ordeal in the trial that took place recently and I must commend them both for their bravery in doing so. I know how difficult and upsetting this was for them. I must also commend the small team of detectives from Bromley who left no stone unturned in what quickly became a complex and difficult investigation.

"The sentences imposed today clearly reflect the extremely serious nature of the offence and I hope that, whilst it may take some period of time, today's sentencing enables the victims and their family to have some closure."
