Two lorries were snapped in a tricky situation today (July 4), as they got stuck half way down a village lane near Southfleet.

Neither driver accepted defeat and reversed, as they persevered down the B262 Betsham Road at 1pm.

Bemused motorists watched the trucks attempt to squeeze past each other for five to ten minutes, before giving up and turning around.

Darenth resident Clive Bilby took the A2 to avoid the situation.

He told News Shopper: "The car in front of me decided to turn around, because the lorries weren't moving.

"I think both lorry's drivers weren't looking at the actual situation - and both thinking the other one should make way."

The 45-year-old, who lives on Hill Rise, added the road continues to be slim from that point, and the lorry in front of him must not know the area.

The lorry had plenty of space behind him - 10 to 15 car's worth - if he had wanted to turn around, he added.

Mr Bilby said: "It's a typical situation, because it's a bus route.

"You do get quite a few large vehicles - buses, tractors.

"I was parked, the engine was turned off, the hand break was on so I thought: 'Let's quickly take a picture'."

Mr Bilby said the hold up did not ruin his sunny Saturday, although others on Facebook branded the move 'madness' and the drivers 'selfish' for pushing ahead.

Dartford resident Miriam Riddles wrote: "Guess they haven't got reverse..."
