A screening of an animated Disney movie due to be held at a St Paul's Cray school tonight has been cancelled at short notice.

Around 500 people were due to gather at Midfield Primary School, Grovelands Road, to watch a screening of Disney blockbuster Big Hero 6.

The Parent School Association (PSA) organised the event to raise money to invest in a roof for the school’s outdoor swimming pool.

But JS Entertainments, the company booked to provide the 112” screen, cancelled on the group earlier today due to rain forecast for this evening.

The parent group is still planning to host an event tonight without the screening, instead offering a disco, food stalls and bouncy castles.

A spokesperson for the Parent School Association said: “They have just completely let us down.

“We have had it booked for months.

“We are going to offer everybody a refund but if they would still like to leave a donation that would be great.

“We’re just a group of mums trying to raise money for different things within the school.

“Anybody who still wants to come along, we’re going to have a couple of bouncy castles here, food stalls and face painting.”

A JS Entertainments spokesman said: “It [the screening] has been cancelled because there is a forecast of showers this evening and the equipment can’t be used in the rain.

“It is weather dependent. Safety is our first priority before anything else.”

The spokesman said customers are informed the service is weather permitting prior to payment and a full refund will be offered.

The PSA are still looking for anyone who could provide entertainment at the event tonight.

If you think you can help, you can contact them via the group’s Facebook page.
