People are being invited to donate their odd socks to help homeless people suffering from trenchfoot.

The 999 Club in Deptford, a charity working with hundreds of people who are homeless or have addiction problems, has launched its Sox Appeal, aiming to collect 13,000 odd socks.

Head of fundraising Andrew Mitchell explained: "We have a podiatrist who comes to treat our homeless, who have all sorts of ailments, in extreme cases trenchfoot. Clean socks will prevent this and that would be an amazing feat."

Spares or pairs can be donated to the 999 Club, 21 Deptford Broadway.
