A 45-year-old male lorry driver died on Friday (June 12) after having a cardiac arrest at the wheel, whilst he was driving along the M26 in Wrotham.

Ambulance, police and fire crews all attended the incident, which happened on the coastbound road at 12.50pm, but the driver had crashed into the central reservation and died at the scene.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "One of our vehicles came across the incident, involving a lorry, and a male driver who was thought to have collapsed at the wheel of his vehicle.

"He went into cardiac arrest at the scene.

"Despite our attempts to resuscitate him, he sadly died at the scene."

The M26 was closed into the evening, on the eastbound road between the J2a, A20 turn off, and J3, M20, turn off causing miles of tailbacks

The two lane section above the M20 was closed just before traffic merges with the M20.

Traffic had to be released after being trapped for around two hours.
