Demand for answers on 'bankrupt councillor'

LEWISHAM Labour group is calling for answers over the position of a former Liberal Democrat councillor.

Labour group chairman Councillor Alan Hall demanded a statement over Councillor Sera Kentman's status at Lewisham Council's Annual General Meeting following her expulsion from the Liberal Democrat party.

Cllr Kentman was expelled last month after failing to provide information concerning her alleged debts and proof of identity.

The Individual Insolvency Register currently lists a Julia Kibris as an undischarged bankrupt, which is one of the names allegedly used by Sera Kentman.

Other names listed on the register include Hulya Kibris, Feliz Guner and Hulya Guner.

She is now serving as an independent on the council.

But Cllr Hall says if she is an undischarged bankrupt then she cannot be a councillor.

He said:"This has cast a shadow on the reputation and credibility of the council as a whole and we want clear answers on what the situation acutally is. We can't continue to allow an ineligible person, if that is what she is, to sit on the council and use town hall resources paid for by Lewisham council tax payers - that would be completely inappropriate and unacceptable."

He added: "We need the basic facts in order to avoid speculation and rumour, and if necessary begin the process to elect a new councillor who is able to legally and properly represent the people of Whitefoot."

On March 30, a 49-year-old woman called Sera Hulya Kibris was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and perjury in Nutfield Road, Redhill, Surrey.

She was taken to Lewisham Police Station where she was bailed to return to a south London police station on May 31.
