Two apprentices studying plumbing, heating and ventilation at Bexley College have scooped the top two prizes at an industry awards ceremony.

Lewis Southgate was named Kent branch's Plumbing Student of the Year by the Chartered Institue of Heating and Plumbing Engineers (CIPHE).

The 19-year-old, who joined Bexley College on the multi-skills course, is nearing the completion of his level two plumbing qualification.

His tutor John Mitchell said Lewis has a "great attitude".

"Lewis has been a pleasure to teach and a great success story for Bexley College and fully deserves this recognition," he said.

Fellow student Ben Fellows took second position in the same award category.

Mr Mitchell said the 17-year-old has shown a genuine interest in plumbing since he started at Bexley College in 2013.

The accolades were awarded by the chief executive of CIPHE Kevin Wellman.
