The Kent Air Ambulance was called out to a man with multiple serious injuries, who had been hit by a lorry on a Gravesend A-road yesterday (May 28).

The 65-year-old pedestrian was air lifted to Kings College Hospital in London.

The A2 was completely blocked Eastbound following the accident, between the A227 Wrotham Road (Gravesend Central) and Valley Drive (Gravesend East).

Traffic was held at a standstill while the air ambulance approached.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: “We were called just before 3.25pm to the A2 coastbound just before the Gravesend East turning yesterday afternoon to reports a man had reportedly been hit by a lorry.

“We sent a car and an ambulance to the scene and we also sent the air ambulance.

“A man was assessed and treated at the scene for injuries including a head injury, before being air lifted to Kings College Hospital.

"He was approximately 65. They were serious injuries.”

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at just after 3.20pm to a report of a collision on the coastbound carriageway of the A2, near Gravesend.

"It was reported a lorry and a pedestrian were involved in a collision.

"The coastbound carriageway was closed for a short while to allow the air ambulance to arrive and take the pedestrian – a man – to a hospital in London for treatment.

"Lane one and two of the coastbound carriageway remain closed."

Tailbacks built on approach, and queues went as far as the B255 (Bean Interchange For Bluewater) exit.

An air ambulance spokeswoman said: "We have been sent to a road traffic collision in Gravesend.

"We were called at 3.41pm."
