Bexley shop owners are being warned after a spate of £50 note scams.

Businesses in Welling and Bexleyheath are advised to be vigilant after a sophisticated £50 note scam is tricking cashiers.

There are reports of a man targeting small shops and businesses.

He walks into shops and goes to buy a low value item.

He then attempts to pay with a real £50 note, which is checked by staff, but then says he might have change and asks for the note back.

MORE TOP STORIES He then says he does not have change, and pays with a £50 which is put in the till and not checked a second time.

As it is not checked again, the man walks away with the correct change.

It is he thought he switches the note when he asks for it back and hands a fake second one over.

He is described as a white male, in his 30s, about 6”2 with short brown hair and an Irish accent.

People thought to be in possession of a fake note are asked to call the police on 101 immediately.

They are also asked to handle it as little as possible as forensics will need to examine it.
