A police crackdown on moped and bike thefts in Bromley has seen six arrested in one week.

Cray Valley, Penge and Mottingham have seen a rise in people stealing mopeds, scooters and bikes.

Police launched an operation last week (May 4) to tackle the crime hotspots.

Since it began two 22-year-old men, and one 19-year old male, have been arrested on suspicion of taking a motorcycle.

Two males aged 17 and 19 were arrested in possession of a stolen off-road bike.

All have been bailed until May or June.

Inspector Toby Noar, at Bromley Police, said: "Often bikes are stolen from driveways or when parked on the road.

"Parking bikes out of view, and securing them with appropriate locks should be considered, as well as securing them to a fixed point, which might be a ring in the ground."

Police have been using specialist off-road bikes and cars equipped with video cameras, as well as other measures.

Insp Noar urged people to report any information relating to bike thefts to their local safer neighbourhood team, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
