Petts Wood Football Club (PWFC) is in the running to win a share of a £100,000 to invest in training and skills for young coaches and players.

Founded in 1946, the club has been announced as a finalist in the Jewson ‘Building Better Communities’ contest and is asking locals to vote online.

The prize money would allow the club to install solar panels at the clubhouse to generate electricity and free up funds to invest in training courses for its members.

Club chairman Michael Collier said: "To have been nominated and shortlisted is a great achievement.

"But it’s important people get behind the project and vote so that we can secure the funds to do vital work in the community."

Jewson asked communities to design a project on anything from a new roof for a village hall to a much needed lick of paint for a long-forgotten public space.
