Bexley and Bromley Schools will be forced to provide places for Kent pupils next year following the closure of Oasis Academy in Hextable.

The school in Egerton Road, which currently educates pupils aged seven to 18, will begin transferring some of its 328 pupils in September, and will close completely next summer due to declining pupil numbers.

A spokesman for the school announced the planned closure in February and Kent County Council (KCC) have now revealed pupils may be placed in schools across Bexley and Bromley due to lack of places in Kent schools.

Years seven to nine pupils will join new schools in September while current year 10 and 12 pupils will stay on until June 2016 to finish GCSE and A-level exams.

A spokesman for the school said: "As such in September 2015, no new students will be admitted to the academy.

"Existing students currently in year seven - nine will join schools in the surrounding area. "We are working closely with parents and Kent County Council to ensure this process is as seamless as possible.

"Oasis will meet the cost of a new uniform for each transferring student and it is worth noting that the majority of students will live closer to their new school if they accept the new place offered to them.

"In fact, we anticipate that the average distance from home to the school gate will fall from 2.5 miles to 1.7 miles."

Kent County Council have confirmed pupils may be placed in London Schools.
