A hotel in Greenwich has regained its licence despite a man nearly being killed in a St Patrick's Day punch-up.

Licensing conditions have been imposed on the King William IV hotel on Trafalgar Road in Greenwich after police found a man unconscious after a mass brawl on March 17.

According to a report from Greenwich Licensing Team's PC Jason Coombes, the victim was repeatedly struck after being left unconscious while the hotel remained open and punters continued to watch TV.

Greenwich Council's Licensing Review Sub-Committee at a meeting on April 16, decided to impose licensing restrictions on the premises, including regular noise checks at the venue, a no entry policy after midnight and a strict anti-drugs policy.

A new digital CCTV system will also be installed at the premises capable of obtaining clear facial recognition images of every person entering or leaving the premises.

The licensing report reads: "The Sub-Committee were in particular impressed by the promises made by the licence holder to use their best endeavours to promote Pub Watch.

"This attitude as expressed was crucial to the decision that there is sufficient confidence in the management to ensure compliance with the conditions of the licence."

PC Coombes was satisfied with the removal of Ray Lukas as hotel manager and the new licensing conditions put in place.
