A Bromley pensioner is planning a trip to The Hague on a campaign for peace.

Glenys Lee, 85, from Vincent Close, has been a member of the Orpington Branch of WILPF (Women's International League of Peace and Freedom) since the 1970s.

Along with a group of other women, she is retracing the same steps a group of 1,300 women took en route to The Hague in 1915 campaigning against WWI.

Their brave exploits were detailed in an exhibition by the WILPF held outside Priory Gardens, in Orpington, for a week ending last Saturday (April 16).

MORE TOP STORIES Marking the centenary of the birth of the organisation, they showcased an original banner from 100 years ago and one made especially to mark the occasion this year.

Clipping, photos and memorabilia collected over the last 100 years was also on display.

Ms Lee, who has four children and six grandchildren, said: “There’s so little about the people who tried to stop the war, this is why this exhibition is so important.

“We’re still going strong, and we leave on April 26th for The Hague attending a conference. I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s very important that we should be part of it, we’ve been working a long time towards equality for all.”
