Orpington residents have set up a funding page to help a neighbour whose house they say gets repeatedly vandalised.

On the weekend of March 28 and 29, neighbours say a group of youths have been targeting a home near Homefield Rise, Orpington.

They set up a funding page last Tuesday (March 31) and have reached £1,000 of their £1,500 target.

Matthew Myles says his 54-year-old cousin, who he does not wish to be named, lives there.

Mr Myles, also 54, of Ramsden Estate, said: "When he was around 19 he was the victim of a hit and run accident which left him brain damaged.

"He spent a lot of time in a coma. He lived with his parents in that house, but lives in the converted garage now.

"Kids have been throwing bricks through his windows; they smashed the glass at the top of his door, they smashed his fence.

"I think he has been in when they’ve thrown bricks before, they follow him around and harass him.

"I put a panel of wood in the door to keep the weather out. It’s constantly happening."

The former builder added: "The other option I’ve got is to remove the glass and replace it with wood permanently.

"Really he needs a new front door, it’s a worry with the cold weather.

"That’s the reason I went over there to patch up his door, it’s made it a bit more secure.

"It’s good that people are trying to help him. It’s great someone is actually doing something.

"I try and get down there as much as possible, He’s quite vulnerable."

His 40-year-old neighbour who set up the fundraising on Tuesday (March 31) said: "He’s an old man on his own, it’s freezing cold, he needs windows.

"I live a couple of doors away from him and the kids terrorise him. They’ve trashed his house.

"Someone has to help, it’s worth a try. It’s important for the community rally round."

The mum, who wishes to remain anonymous, added: "We hope he realises there are people who care and look out for him and doesn’t feel so alone.

"We’re just trying to do the best for him and help him get his windows repaired."
