VENETIAN artist Canaletto visited England in 1746, beginning a nine-year stay which would re-launch his career. An exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery brings together Canaletto's paintings from this period, including his famous scenes of London life.
He painted many English landmarks including St Paul's Cathedral, Alnwick Castle and Eton College.
The exhibition also includes Italian scenes and his decorative schemes for palatial London homes. Many of these works are loaned from private collections and are rarely on view to the public.
