Police UFO sightings database

A DATABASE of UFO sightings by police officers has clocked up more than 200 cases in five years.

Launched by Detective Constable Gary Heseltine, of the British Transport Police (BTP), the unofficial site has seen around 100 officers added each year to date.

Sightings in the News Shopper region include one in Farnborough and one in Gravesend.

In October 1993 PC Tony Francis was called to an address in Gravesend after reports of a UFO from a mother and her son.

The craft was described as changing its shape from that of a bell to an oval with protruding spikes.

According to the DC Heseltine, a seven-page report on the sighting was submitted to the Ministry of Defence, which gave no explanation for the UFO.

Back in April 1978, PC Alan Craggs was called to an address in Farnborough, following an alleged UFO sighting.

According to the site, PC Craggs described it as: "being 20-30 feet above him with wings like fins on a dolphin."

The craft had allegedly been in the sky for close to an hour before the officer arrived.

PC Craggs is reported to have said: "I've been in the Air Force, I know what an aircraft looks like at night."

The site lists a total of 43 new reports of UFOs seen by on-duty police officers across Britain in the past year, with the largest number of sightings taking place in West Yorkshire.

DC Heseltine, who works for the BTP in Leeds, said: "After studying the subject for over thirty years I am totally convinced that a small proportion of UFO sightings are genuine and represent an extraterrestrial presence on the earth.

"I urge any officer out there, whether serving or retired to contact me about their respective UFO experiences.

"Anyone wishing to have their identity witheld can do so safe in the knowledge that I will never release their details unless they specifically allow me to."

This is great news.

Instead of concentrating on policing the living, and those who are at risk in terrestrial life, the British Transport Police prefer to devote resources to a whim and fantasy based on speculative sightings.

It's good to see someone taking this seriously, with numerous credible witnesses reporting the same thing.

The swamp-gas and lighthouse excuses are actually more difficult to believe when the same objects are viewed simultaneously by flight crews, airtraffic controllers, and police...

After hearing first hand reports from Cuba, Guatemala and Mongolia, it would be tantamount to having tunnel vision, for members of academia, scientisits and the like, to assume other civilizations don't exist.

Actually there is more to the story than just extraterrestrials cruising around probing folks. Some of the craft are from spaces unknown. But it takes a lot of advanced technology and energy resources to do that bit. And then there are the craft that have been developed over the years by governments and yes INDIVIDUALS that are plying the frendly skys. There is no money to be made if the technologies employed are efficent and low cost. If everyone has a cheap source of power and the capability to become independent of the companies and countries that want to control them then those countries and governments and corporations would find themselves out of a job very quickly. Thus we have such widely different reports of the types of craft and their operation. Humens certainly don't make just one automobile do they? One television or one type of phone or radio. And even in those simple catagories the wide variety of technologies used to do the same jobs is astounding. Police, because of their duties are keen observer for the most part because one goof at the wrong time could mean taking an early dirt nap. They tend to notice things and are often required to retell their observations in reports that some review board could possibly use against the if they screw up. In the end, if a cop tells me he saw something strange while looking for something strange then I'm more likely to believe them. They aren't going to risk their jobs and pensions over somethiing trivial. Just because the explanations of differing event don't match doesn't mean the didn't happen. It is a complex situation when you see something you don't understand and are forced to shoehorn it into a known frame of reference. So keep an open mind about those police personnel who have the guts to actually come forward.

I am a former physicist with the USAF and can tell you there is so much more to the picture. Can you imagine what would happen if some small and rather violent culture found out they could build a craft that could travel hundres of thousands of miles cheaply and using those same energy resources detonate an explosive device in the 10's of megaton range for the cost of one overblown tactical fighter. Chaos. Sadly those same technologies could overnight save the world. Or destroy it. We are simply to underdeveloped as a society to handle the responsibility. Sadly that leaves the goodies in the hands of people who's best interests are served by keeping these spoils to them selves and ruining anyone who might accidentally stumble on them independant of the governments control.

Some of those unidentifieds may be "identified," instead. Astronomers assume that aliens exist, and ranking brass, astronauts and other officials have acknowledged that the US has an alien-tech program. Police observations of the sort are good, honest reportage. The old "laws" of physics aren't laws; they're overthrown at intervals. A good scientist both looks for, and expects the unexpected.

The "free energy" brigade and the ill-informed "'s obvious, init" crowds devalue the facts behind ufology. By including cases which already have clear explanations in his report, Gary Heseltine devalues the interesting and vaild testimony readily available to ufologists. Examples of cases in the catalogue with unambiguous explanations include:

On-duty case 42, Aldridge, Stafforshire.

This was stimulated by the planet Mars. The image on the photograph was a streetlam, inadvertently included in the frame when the policeman tried to photograph Mars. This case was investigated by J. Allen Hynek and Julian Hennessey at the time and their report published in Flying Saucer Review Case Histories Supplement 9, pages 1-2. February 1972. I have pointed this out to Gary, but he has not seen fit to include the information in his catalogue.

Off-duty case 18, Cracoe Fell.

This has been proven beyond doubt to be caused by a recurring optical illusion which takes place to this very day, yet Gary knows better and a policeman couldn't possibly be mistaken...

On-duty report case 254

There were a series of reports, may by police and service personnel. The cause was the re-entry of a satellite booster. See:

www.uk-ufo.org/cosford

for a feature article on this case. Compare the details there to an account by Nick Pope at www.nickpope.net and spot the difference...

Gary has also not included many hundreds of other cases reported by policemen, some of them far more interesting than those above, but while he is still including cases such as those mentioned, I'll leave it to him to uncover the really interesting cases.

I found this article very interesting. It certainly makes a difference from all the trivial celebrity gossip and sex scandal articles which make front page news in the mainstream media.

I really hope that some day, we will get to the bottom of this ever-elusive mystery of whether we are alone or not and whether we also have or still are, being visited by other beings.

Once again, well done and keep it up! Thanks.

It's no wonder the police are seeing all the UFO's. So is everyone else. All one has to do to understand why is to google the year 2012. The Mayans knew thousands of years ago what was coming and now it is only 5 years away.
SOON THEY WILL BE LANDING and we can all talk to them.

You will find that DC Heseltine devotes his personal time to this cause and not his duty time to the investigation of aerial phenomena. This isn't something investigated by UK Police Forces.

miffy i quite agree...it is also nice to see that people devote their time to be arrogant and self admiring in thier views by posting messages they feel quite 'clever' or perhaps 'insightful' to the real matters in this world, instead of otherwise writing to thier local MP listing thier distastes, who would (being and MP) enjoy reading the whims of an such an 'in touch' induvidual. How dare any one, god forbid a police man express his experiences however eventful they where for him? This is offensive to my intelligent ego.

on 30th Oct at about 2040 I saw a very bright light in the sky, the sort of brightness and size of a distant planet that darted about the sky flashing on and off . the distance between movements made it impoosible to have been a plane and the speed it moved was really fast. If this is a hoax its **** good. if its not then loads of other people must have seen something.

The biggest UFO story was back in abt 1963 with UFO's being sighted in Blackfen / Welling, with local paper reports of strange markings on the fields at Westwood School and a classroom being wrecked. Visiters from outerspace??
I saw the ship above ' Dicks Fish Shop' on the junction of the old A2 . it was oval in shape with orange lights flashing around the middle and underneath. Nobody believes me so would like a copy of the prigional story on The Newshopper.

Before i knew it, the large blue genitles were inside me. I must have been knocked out. I mean, anyone would be by the size of that thing.

Hi there folks.
Well I am pretty sure we do not live alone in this universe. There are many misteries that have no or very little answers. However I am sure as many folks believe that there is intelligent life out there and also in our planet that we do not know of.
