Green fingered residents have the chance to show off their skills as part of gardening competition Bromley In Bloom.

News Shopper has once again joined forces with Coolings Garden Centre, in Knockolt, to find the best gardens in town.

The third year the event has been run by Coolings, the green initiative is open to anyone of all ages.

With 10 categories this year, including best front garden, best pub or restaurant garden and most original planted pot or hanging basket, there is something for everyone to get stuck into.

The competition, which is free to enter, will net the lucky winner a £25 Coolings voucher, with £10 for the runner-up and £5 for third place.

Every household that enters will also receive a £5 voucher.

MORE TOP STORIES Business development manager, Neil Jackson, said: “We judge everything on its own merit but we’re always looking for something different or something we’ve never seen done before.

“The only rule is that it has to be viewable from the road.

“We’re trying to encourage younger generations, people in their 30s or 40s to get involved.

“We’d love to have people in their 20s involved too but that doesn’t seem likely to happen.

“It is something everyone can enjoy; we judge the gardens not the people.”

It is not all about flowers though, with weed control, foliage and bio-diversity what the judges are also on the lookout for.

He added: “We had about 80 entries last year; I remember Shortlands Tavern was particularly good.

“It’s all about making it look more beautiful, and what easier way than to grow a few plants.”

Entries must be made before June 30, with judging by a panel from London Garden Society taking place in July and August.

Winners will be announced on October 3, and the lucky winners will be presented with their prizes at the centre itself.
