Lewisham's school chief is leaving her £132,000 a year post after 14 years.

Executive director for children and young people Frankie Sulke recently received criticism after pushing through plans to replace the board of Sedgehill School - sparking a protest from parents and teachers with calls to "sack Sulke".

But Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock praised her work, saying: ""Frankie has overseen significant changes to our schools, both physically and in their performance. Our primary schools are among the best in the country and have absorbed the dramatic increase in pupil numbers.

"She has also overseen the Building Schools for the Future programme, which has transformed the borough’s secondary schools. Frankie has also made a huge contribution to the safety and well-being of Lewisham’s children in the widest sense."

Ms Sulke said: "It has been an extraordinary privilege to work for and with children and young people in Lewisham. It will be so very difficult to leave such an outstanding group of colleagues and such wonderful children and young people."

She will stay on until the council finds a successor.
