Engineering students from Greenwich University Technical College (UTC) have entered a national competition to design, build and race a sustainable vehicle.
Year 12 and 13 students are entering two cars into the competition, organised by Greenpower Education Trust, and will see their vehicles put to the test in 60 minute races at some of the country's most famous race tracks.
After an initial test race in April, their finished model will compete against 200 schools in regional heats, with the top three qualifiers taking part in the International Final race in October at Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Jay Wright, Head of Engineering at UTC - a college for students aged 14-19 specialising in engineering, design and construction, said: "The project enables students to get excited about engaging in engineering.
"It also raises important moral and social issues about the environment. But mostly it gives our students the chance to build and race their own car! Who wouldn't want to give it a go?"
