A letter claiming to be addressed from David Cameron to Lewisham Labour has been posted on various bus stops around Lewisham.

The letter thanks Lewisham Council for helping push through £85 million of cuts to Lewisham services.

It also claims that the Prime Minister wanted to personally thank the council for their cooperation and was impressed that no Labour councillors opposed the cuts.

The letter reads: "Of course the Prime Minister understands that great hardships will have to be endured.

"Your own recent celebration of 50 years of Lewisham Council was marred by the cancelation of the Champagne order for a rather lackluster Pinto Grigio.

"If it is of any consolation the Prime Minister had to feign an interest in bitter but your own Ed Miliband has had to pretend to be a man of the people and eat a bacon sandwich."

Lewisham councillor Alan Hall confirmed that the letter is a fake.

He added: "The Liberal Democrat and Tory coalition government have imposed a devastating £85m of cuts on Lewisham Council - there was no choice - and they have promised more to come.

"Fortunately Lewisham voters do have a choice on May 7th and if they want to see real change they can vote for Lewisham's Labour MPs."
