A consultation has showed overwhelming support to bring the Bakerloo Line to Lewisham - but people are more divided over a further extension to Bromley.
More than 15,000 responses to Transport for London's (TfL) consultation were received with 96 per cent of respondents supporting the £3bn Lewisham Underground extension - not due to be completed until the early 2030s.
The consultation proposed two alternative routes between Elephant & Castle and Lewisham - via Camberwell and Peckham Rye or the Old Kent Road.
However, only 56 per cent of respondents supported a further extension to Hayes and Beckenham Junction, although 61 per cent backed a tunnel onwards to Bromley town centre.
In January, Bromley Council said a Hayes extension - which would take over the existing line connecting the area to London Bridge - was "unacceptable".
TfL will now review alternative routes that were proposed, including an assessment of costs and benefits.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson, said: "An extension of the Bakerloo line will provide a vital new transport link for the people of south London and help to spur jobs, new homes and regeneration in this part of the capital.
"It is fantastic that so many people are in support of the plans and I am determined to push ahead with them at pace. This extension has huge potential to breathe a new lease of life into south London’s opportunity areas, as well as delivering urgently needed rapid transit capacity in the area."
