Thames Water engineers have successfully moved a bin lorry which was at risk of being swallowed up by a sink hole.
They used wooden planks to cover the hole, before carefully driving the lorry away.
The sink hole has opened up on Warwick Road in Sidcup after a fresh water leak, and is growing by the minute.
Sidcup resident Elaine Roles tweeted pictures of the hole at 12pm, and reported being able to hear bits of the road falling into the water as the hole grew.
The hole was getting closer to the 'food waste' lorry's wheels, leading to fears that it could fall in.
A Bexley Council spokeswoman said: "A suspected fresh water leak has caused part of a road to collapse in Warwick Road, Sidcup.
"Thames Water are onsite and dealing with the issue.
"Unfortunately a recycling freighter is currently positioned directly above the affected part of the road.
"The freighter will be removed as soon as possible.

"Council contractors Serco and Thames Water are liaising with Council engineers.
"The road has been closed but local traffic can gain access through adjacent roads.
"No bus routes have been affected but drivers are advised to avoid the area."
A Thames Water spokesman said: “Our engineers are investigating a sinkhole after the council alerted us to it this morning.”
