We waited 16 years, but it seems we will have to wait another 11 before actually witnessing an eclipse.

The day we had all been planning for finally came, but us Londoners were denied a front row seat to the celestial phenomena which rarely graces our skies.

We were told the partial solar eclipse - set to blot out about 85 per cent of our sun - would be at its zenith around 9.34am, to be precise. 

But many were greeted with a blanket grey sky, prompting disappointment from those who had travelled to hilltops or invested in special eye ware.

MORE TOP STORIES While the temperature did drop somewhat, many were denied the breathtaking views our northern counterparts witnessed.

At News Shopper, we trooped up to the roof en masse to get the best views.

But with our supply of mini-eggs running low, we resorted to firstly finding where the sun was on a sky app, and looking at the eclipse through that.
