Students from across Bromley are rubbing shoulders with the stars and dignitaries for National Apprenticeship Week.

The nationwide initiative runs from March 9-13 and we are celebrating our local apprentices.

Joe Holsgrove, 20, and Dionne Reeves, 29, are both Savile Row apprentice tailors.

They are two of 25 nominees shortlisted for the coveted Golden Shears Award 2015.

The winner will be decided by a celebrity panel including supermodels David Gandy and Jodie Kidd, fashion designer Betty Jackson and actress Jennifer Saunders.

Mr Gandy added: "Bespoke British tailoring is one of this country’s great skills with expertise being passed from generation to generation."

Mr Holsgrove, 20, is in his third year of a coat-making apprenticeship at Savile Row's Denman & Goddard.

His love of fine clothing blossomed from listening to his grandfather's stories of working as a tailor.

Mr Holsgrove, from Belmont Lane, Chislehurst, said: "I can honestly say there hasn’t been a day when I haven’t enjoyed every minute."

Dionne Reeves, 29, is an apprentice tailor at H. Huntsman & Sons on Savile Row.

Ms Reeves, from Wadhurst Close, Penge, said: "I found that I had a strong interest in traditional menswear and wanted to learn more about the process of making a suit."

The winners will be decided on Monday (March 16).

MORE TOP STORIES Bromley College on Rookery Lane currently has 641 students in over 50 apprenticeship courses, including business administration, customer services and carpentry.

One of these students is Paige Coster, 16, from Sevenoaks Way, Orpington, who is in her second year of a hairdressing apprenticeship at The Lounge Hair and Beauty Salon in High Street, Orpington.

Ms Coster said: "Working here has been amazing, all my colleagues and manager are so friendly. They all make me feel part of the team.”

She added: "I think it’s a great opportunity that I potentially could be kept on. I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship."

Peter McClymont, 20, from South Northwood, and Jack Hever, 20, from Orpington, received apprenticeship certificates from Beckenham MP Colonel Bob Stewart last Tuesday (March 10).

Both are Performing Engineering Operations apprentices at European Springs and Pressings in based in Croydon Road, Beckenham, which is the first small-to-medium enterprise in London to deliver this apprenticeship.
