A Woolwich hotel site which was left abandoned midway through construction has been bought by Berkeley Homes.

The shell of the six-storey Beresford Street building was built several years ago before owners Key Homes Group went into administration.

Now Berkeley Homes, which is developing the Royal Arsenal, has purchased the site and is looking for a hotel operator to complete it.

Once finished, the hotel will provide 130 bedrooms with the promise of up to 35 new jobs.

Divisional managing director of Berkeley Homes Karl Whiteman said: "Local residents have had to put up with years of uncertainty over this building so we are delighted to have completed the purchase and be able to offer it a positive future."

He added: "We will be working hard over the coming months to identify the right operator to ensure that it complements the new development at Royal Arsenal Riverside. We will keep the community updated on progress through the course of this year."
