Three people have appeared in court after police found £5 million worth of heroin and cocaine in Gravesend.

Kent Police stopped a car in Springhead Road at 4.30pm on March 5 and discovered a suitcase containing approximately ten kilos of heroin.

Zahid Mahmood, 42, of Albert Road, Handsworth, was arrested at the scene.

Romeo Apostu, 43, of no fixed address, and Bas Van Der Weijden, 40, of Montgomery Laam, Eindhoven, were later arrested when officers discovered three more suitcases in another car containing a similar amount of drugs.

It is estimated that 30 kilos of heroin and 12 kilos of cocaine were recovered, with an approximate street value of £5 million.

All three men were charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin.

The trio appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court court on March 7 and were remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on March 27.
