Orpington residents claim “someone will die” after a three car smash at a notorious roundabout.

Hadleigh Miles, 21, was driving his Mercedes along Sevenoaks Road today (March 6) before a Honda smashed into him around 2.30pm.

He was then shunted into a British Gas van in Stapleton Road, and although no one was injured he says it is only a matter of time.

Mr Miles, from Blackheath, said: “I could see the car in the distance coming at speed; it was a complete collision that’s it.

“It was surreal after the impact.

“I tried to get myself together; I hurt my arms and wrist from where I was holding the steering wheel.”

Mr Miles, who works in sales, added: “I couldn’t do anything there was no time to break.

“I’m just glad no one was hurt.”

Collecting 50 comments and signatures, Mrs Chant claims the council have been lax in improving safety after she presented the campaign to them last summer.

Mrs Chant, retired, said: “We went to the council and had a meeting but nothing’s happening.

“It’s a fatality waiting to happen.

“There’s a school up here, if this had been half an hour later children could have been on the pavement.”

The airbags were deployed in the Honda upon impact, and traffic ground to halt in the aftermath.

Fire-fighters were called to the scene to help move the wreckage off the road.

Miss Chant, who works in graduate recruitment, continued: “Neighbours said they heard the crash. It was complete carnage.

“We were quite shocked at the damage, it was chaos out here.

“Something needs to be done, someone will die here it’s so dangerous.

“Sadly it might take that for something to happen though.

She says the roundabout was introduced around 18 months ago, and since near-misses have been rife.
