A policewoman was given a four month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to dangerous driving in Anerely.

Naylor Jhita, a police constable, was charged on November 11 last year with dangerous driving and attempted GBH.

She pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Croydon Crown Court on February 6, and not guilty to attempted GBH which was accepted.

The policewoman, 26, was arrested on September 1 last year after the incident was caught on CCTV near Station Road, Anerley, on August 31.

Taking place while she was off-duty, council operators witnessed a dispute between a man and a woman.

The court heard Jhita, a PC from Tower Hamlets, was the victim of domestic abuse while in a relationship with the man.

The cause of the argument was said to be the man taking Jhita’s warrant card while they were both in a nearby pub.

MORE TOP STORIES After arguing on the street, Jhita got in her Mini Cooper and drove on the wrong side of the road before mounting the pavement and hitting the man - twice - before driving away from the scene.

Both times he ended up on the bonnet, and she narrowly missed a bollard.

He was not seriously injured.

Jhita, herself on bail at the time, should not have met with the man as this was a bail condition of his due to the domestic violence.

Judge Jeremy Gold, sentencing, said: “Dangerous driving is a serious matter. He was not injured but this is completely unacceptable.

“As a serving police officer you knew he was on bail conditions not to meet with you.

“Foolishly you did that, aggravating it further as you were on bail for another matter.

“The public are entitled to expect the highest standards of behaviour from a police officer.

“You fell below these standards.”

She was suspended following the initial incident, and will not continue being a police officer.

Sentenced on Friday (March 6), her sentence was suspended for 12 months and she was also ordered to pay costs of £1,200 and banned from driving for 12 months.

Previously Jhita was found guilty of two counts of theft and one count of criminal damage in December 2013.

The charges relate to an incident which took place in August 2013 in Camberwell.

Jhita had an argument with her former partner and smashed six plates before leaving a house and taking keys with her.

A snare drum was later found in her car.

She was fined £300 and ordered to pay £128 compensation by Blackfriars Crown Court on December 2 last year.
