A Mexican restaurant has opened to much fanfare in the centre of Bromley.

Benito’s Hat, which offers a compact menu of authentic tacos and burritos alongside cocktails and nacho chips and dips, started serving at the top end of the High Street at the end of last week.

It has already proved popular, with a 1,000 taco giveaway yesterday keeping crowds queuing all day.

Assistant manager Anthony Abbey told News Shopper: “Everything has been very good so far.

“Everything is so happy. People love the bar, when people can come in and sit down and you can interact with them as you make their drink.

“They like that and the staff like that. We have some regular customers already.

“It is a relaxed environment, you get your food nice and quickly, it’s easy to do and the food is good as well. It’s good service as well.”

The restaurant is stylish and you feel looked after but the canteen-style service makes it reminiscent of a Mexican Subway and very quick – ideal for a weekday lunchtime.

The portions are pretty generous too.

Anthony added: “It’s quality food done fast. It is very quick and once you have come in once and you know what to do, it is even quicker.

Named after 19th century Mexican politician Benito Juarez, Benito’s was founded by a Londoner called Ben who returned from a year in Texas and wondered why Mexican food was so well represented in the US but not in the UK.

He teamed up with a chef called Felipe and the pair now have eight restaurants.
