Bromley has been awarded nearly £150,000 as part of the London Mayor’s High Street Fund. 

Small businesses and community organisations are eligible for a grant of £20,000 each from a £9 million pot.

One successful group is the Copers Cope Residents Association and town team, who have been awarded the sum for their 'Do Up Our Alley' project.

The money will go towards improving the alleyways off Beckenham High Street.

MORE TOP STORIES The announcement by the Mayor yesterday (March 3) also included 25 larger borough-led projects.

One of these was a project by Bromley Council to expand public spaces around the Walnuts shopping centre, which has been awarded £125,000.

The cash will also be used to revamp the town square with initiative such as market stalls.

Orpington 1st will also be given a boost to help start-ups and existing businesses thrive.

Parallel to this Bromley Council is now consulting on its plans for the town centre.

Transport for London (TfL) have stumped up the £3.2 million to fund the scheme The key elements include pavements, parking spaces, lighting and furniture.

A public exhibition of plans will be on display next Thursday (March 12) at Citygate Church, Rectory Road, from 11.30am-8pm.

Coun Peter Morgan, executive councillor for renewal and recreation, said: "We are committed to improving Beckenham town centre and encouraging new investment to the historic area, which will support its future vibrancy."

The consultation runs until March 27.
