A teenager has been found guilty of the murder of James Hunter who was stabbed to death in Sydenham.

The 18-year-old died outside the Tasty Chicken shop in Wells Park Road on May 31 last year.

Earlier today (February 26) an Old Bailey jury found a 17-year-old, from South Norwood, guilty of murder and wounding with intent.

MORE TOP STORIES A second youth from Forest Hill, who turned 17 earlier this month, was found guilty of being in possession of a knife and intentionally encouraging or assisting an offence.

Three others aged 17, 16 and another recently turned 18, from Catford, Sydenham and Forest Hill, were found not guilty of murder but guilty of wounding with intent.

Another 17-year-old, from Catford, was found not guilty of murder and wounding with intent.

All six denied charges.

The Old Bailey heard how Mr Hunter died from a single stab wound to the chest, which penetrated his heart.

The court was told how a friend of Mr Hunter’s was the intended victim, but the deceased had stepped in to help his friend.

The intended victim also sustained deep stab wounds to his buttocks during the attack.

The teenagers are due to be sentenced in April.
