Three men have been arrested following reports of rogue traders operating in the West Kingsdown area.

On February 16 a group of men knocked on doors of elderly residents in London Road asking for cash to chop down trees.

Officers later arrested three men in Botsom Lane, on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud.

The suspects, aged 42, 25 and 24 and all from Luton in Bedfordshire have been bailed, pending further enquiries, until 13 March.

Kent Police have offered advice to residents who may fall victim to rogue traders:

  • Do not deal with doorstep callers offering work on your home or garden.
  • Use reputable traders who are members of the KCC Trading Standards approved trader scheme, run in partnership with Checkatrade.
  • Ask for quotes in writing and check that the tradesperson is from the company they say they are from.
  • Ring at least three traders to get a feel for an average price for the job.
  • Remember that traders must give you written notice of your right to 14 days cancellation when agreeing to do work at your home, including work gained from a cold call.
  • Call 101 to report any problems involving suspected rogue traders or call the Citizens Advice Consumer Services Consumer Direct on 03454 040506
