A dedicated litter picker has been crowned champion of Mottingham’s streets and presented with an honorary barrow to help with his patrols.

Peter Jordan-Derring, who helps to keep the district clean as part of Bromley Council’s Street Friends scheme, was awarded the equipment at a surprise presentation on Monday (February 9).

Residents and ward councillors presented the barrow to Mr Jordan-Derring - a long-standing Street Friend who has been litter picking when walking locally for years.

Mottingham ward councillor David Cartwright, said: “We and local residents have been thoroughly impressed with the dedication that Peter has shown.

“This is positive proof that the people of Mottingham do care, not just about local streets but also by saluting the difference Peter is making.”

Coun Cartwright said Mr Jordan-Derring had even taken the time to tidy land which the council is not responsible for.

Residents inspired Mr Jordan-Derring’s work are invited to join the growing ranks of the borough’s Street Friends, who help keep their streets safe and clean.
