A statue of Queen Victoria in Gravesend will undergo much-needed restoration thanks to a generous Lottery grant.
Gravesham Council have received £20,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for restoration of the statue in the town's charter market.
The statue was handed to the town by benefactor and mayor George Arnold.
It was orginally planned to stand in Darnley Road but broken varnish meant it would not withstand the elements so an identical statue was made and still stands in the Darnley Road site.
Council leader Coun John Burden said: "I am delighted that we have been able to secure this grant which will enable the statue to remain a centrepiece of one of England's oldest charter markets.
"The market itself is due to be refurbished by an £1.8m grant from the Coastal Communities Fund and today's news is very much the icing on the cake."
