A mysterious blue fox which stole people's hearts after being snapped at a Woolwich Travelodge has been put down.

The creature, which made headlines across the country, was lured away using Doritos from the hotel by a member of the public before anyone from the RSPCA could intervene.

But now the animal has been found and, sadly, had to be put to sleep because of its injuries.

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "Very sadly, the fox was so unwell, that a vet said the kindest thing to do was put him to sleep to prevent further suffering.

"He was extremely thin with wounds all over his hock and legs, alopecia, mange and an ulcerated and sore tail."

The organisation believes the fox's unusual colour was down to it "falling, sleeping or lying in something blue".
