Police called to a large fight in Bromley early Sunday morning seized a rocket launcher, machine gun and assault rifle.

The astonishing haul of weaponry, later found to be incapable of firing, was found after officers were called to East Street at 4.30am after reports of a fight involving 10 men.

As officers were attending, CCTV operators observed that one man appeared to be carrying an assault rifle.

By the time police arrived, the men had dispersed, but CCTV footage allowed officers to trace the firearm to an address in Market Square.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Firearms officers entered the address and five men were arrested and three weapons seized.

"The weapons were an AK47 style assault rifle, a WWII machine gun and a rocket launcher.

"Following examination by firearm specialists it was established that the weapons are incapable of firing and have been decommissioned."

Two of the men were arrested, aged 32 and 41 and were taken into custody at a south London police station on suspicion of firearms offences.

The spokesman said: "Although the weapons were not capable of firing, the presence of firearms in a public place causes panic and fear of violence."

Detectives from Bromley Borough's CID are investigating and enquiries continue.
